Ok so I watched the new Star Wars film again. Not even ashamed at this point cos I'm in too deep since ages ago in this nerdery and I need a major distraction from all this gaudy festive season that's all around me.

- I've never been a fan of 3D film technology as a bespectacled viewer and that shit gives me headache, but 3D really works for this film. I love that shot where the star Destroyer is just jutting out from the screen. All the space shots just look awesome, now that I have more calmness to appreciate everything.

- A lot of people were criticising the film about its lack of creativity. I actually agree. Everything looks awesome all right, but there's no work of creative genius that really impressed me. The aliens were all so nondescript. The planet settings were rehashed and very earth-like. I know the OT wasn't that creative in making up climates but at least Cloud City was interesting. Maz Kanata's planet looks like a bastardised Minas Tirith. And speaking of that other epic saga, it's a mistake to get Andy Serkis to play Snoke (what kind of a dumb name is Snoke??) because he looks like a love child of Gollum and noseless Voldemort. It's too uninspired.

- that said, the landscapes were all beautiful though.

- I'm a shipper by nature ok? I can't help it. And I'm at this point where I'm just shipping the new trio like the James Potter/Lily Evans/Severus Snape love triangle (no cookie for guessing who is Snape) but that's sick as fuck. And I'm really really hoping Rey is Luke's daughter you know? Which means I'm hoping rey and kylo ren are cousins?? Like wtf brain, I swear my mind gets more corrupted as I grow older. But hey, consanguineous marriages happen all the time in this world--- omg wtf am I talking about. But ok I think I like the whole idea of unrequited Kylo Ren-->Rey a la Snape--->Lily. As you can see where this is going, I'm holding out for an undercover jedi subplot, or at least some redemption ending for Kylo Ren. God, the plot bunnies are jumping in my head but the words are rusty from years of lack of use fml. BEN SOLO WHY U GOTTA GO AND MAKE YOURSELF A FUCKING BYRONIC HERO you know i can't resist such shits

- now that I know what to expect and what will happen, everything Han says in this film is so poignant. Even that whole "all of it is true" scene, which seemed at first like serving only some pure nostalgic fanservice, it's actually Han learning to "believe" in the Force because he had to see the proof himself the hard way-- his son turning to the Dark Side. 😭

- everyone laughed when kylo ren took off his mask. I don't think that was the intended effect so the film failed on that point horribly

- Han and Leia named their only son after Ben Kenobi; now that came out of left field. Leia doing that is understandable, considering Ben was her "only hope" in ANH, but that Han would name his son after "that old fossil" shows a lot of character development and newfound respect for the guy who basically got Han Solo entangled in this whole mess to begin with.

- I noticed that John Williams loves to use the flute for themes of female characters. Yes I like. I'm in love with "The Scavenger" track from TFA soundtrack.

- I ship rey and Finn so hard. I mean seriously, when Finn was gonna run away from being a hero a la Han Solo (who was still running away himself at that point), and rey was seeing him leave and was being all teary-eyed, that triggered her abandonment issues which then led to the defining moment of the Force calling her towards the lightsaber. The vision included the future as well as her past, which is the root of her abandonment fears. Damn this story is well-written and character-driven that it makes up for this lack of creative genius.

- Poe dameron is a Gary Stu.

- I like the kylo ren/Ben solo character but the film's villains are really lame. I can't take Snoke seriously tbh

- love the diversity in this film. I love the diversity in the Star Wars universe, not just the racial diversity within the human race but also the interspecies diversity. And how everyone is a polyglot. And that's a common, almost expected norm in the galaxy. And somehow everyone just communicates efficiently even without a droid sometimes. Also I love how Star Wars ignores all laws of our galaxy's science -- that's SciFi for you

- I love how campy Star Wars is. Despite the hype among the masses, it's still nerdery to love it.

- I will never forgive this film for not giving us a post-tragedy hug between leia and chewie

- chewbacca is by far the best character in this film.

Really hope this is the last time I'm watching this shit.
