1.
Each foot unsteady
straddling on two boats:
Be careful
lest you split because
drowning is a painful death.
2.
The ghosts have come out.
The gates of the underworld have been opened.
Can't you see them?
Floating spectres of inconspicuous existence.
If you squint hard enough you'll see them weaving
in
and
out
of the suffocating crowds;
drifting along silently behind families,
standing beside you in the train,
sitting under the bridge reminiscing about the Hell they escaped,
their soulless eyes gazing into the unending distance
counting the days left until
Hades welcomes them into his arms again.
3.
A well-trodden path
is like a straightjacket
padded with warm sheep's wool
against the approaching winter winds.
4.
Mothers tell their daughters
to protect what lies between their legs
for it is both a flower and a dagger.
But why didn't you tell her
to guard what flutters in the cage of her chest
like a fierce warrior
instead?
You should know this as well
as the roots of her hair;
That a broken heart scars
irreparably pieced back together,
its smithereens cutting deeper
into the soul
than a torn hymen.
5.
Words are just words
literally
Meaning isn't shackled to letters
abbreviations
acronyms
It transcends physical limits
figuratively
Let it run free
In the wild
and you'll see it in everything
even in places you'd least expect it to be.
6.
She's tired today,
she said
so she'd see him tomorrow.
Translation:
I wish tomorrow never comes
if today is the last day
let it be the longest.
Will the clock stop its ticking
whilst I dream of forever
tonight?
7.
Disengage.
Leave your emotional baggage at the door.
To be a robot you must peel off
everything
down to the bones.
(Keep your guts, you'll need them. )
This is not--
never was--
about you.
8.
You'd think
that by now
I'd have a doctorate
in saying goodbye.
What ever happened to
"Practice makes perfect"?
